About .gov.pk

PKNIC's restricted extension for registered federal government departments, ministries, and public-sector organisations of Pakistan.

It cannot be registered by an individual, a private business, or any body that is not an authorised part of the federal government — the applicant must be an authentic member of a registered government department applying on the department's behalf.

Like every .pk name, registration and renewal are in 2-year increments; unlike the open extensions, PKNIC requires supporting documents before it will approve the registration.

Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Jammu & Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan each have their own equivalent extension (.gop.pk, .gos.pk, .gob.pk, .gkp.pk, .gok.pk and .gog.pk respectively) for provincial and territorial bodies, while .gov.pk itself is reserved for federal ministries and departments.

Because PKNIC verifies every applicant before the name goes live, nobody outside a genuine federal department can obtain a .gov.pk address, which is precisely what makes the extension trustworthy at a glance.

A ministry that keeps its official communication, tenders, circulars and public notices under a verified .gov.pk domain gives the public a reliable way to tell real announcements from fraudulent ones, and gives search engines and news outlets a stable, citable address to link back to.

If your organisation isn't a federal department

.gov.pk is reserved strictly for the federal tier of government, so a provincial secretariat, district administration, autonomous body or public-sector corporation should look at the matching provincial extension instead — .gop.pk, .gos.pk, .gob.pk, .gkp.pk, .gok.pk or .gog.pk, depending on the province or territory it belongs to.

A registered NGO, trust or non-profit that works alongside government on a project is not eligible for .gov.pk either — .org.pk is the correct home for that kind of organisation. Any other business, media outlet or individual can still build a professional web presence under the open .pk extension, which needs no supporting documents at all and is ready the moment payment clears.
