About .edu.pk
A second-level .pk extension reserved strictly for registered and affiliated educational institutions in Pakistan.
Schools, colleges, universities and institutes that are registered with, or affiliated to, a federal or provincial education department can register a .edu.pk name for their official website. It cannot be used for individual, commercial or unrelated purposes.
This is one of PKNIC's restricted extensions: after you place an order we collect supporting documents on your behalf, and the name only goes live once PKNIC has approved them — activation typically takes about a week once correct documents are received.
Registration and renewal both run in 2-year increments (up to 10 years maximum); renewal itself needs no fresh documentation once the domain is already registered. If a name lapses, PKNIC allows a redemption window from the 7th to the 20th day after expiry to renew it before it is released.
It suits registered schools, colleges, institutes and universities, and private schools or colleges that are formally registered or affiliated with an education department can also qualify. It is not an internationalised domain, and — like every .pk extension — cannot be registered for less than 2 years at a time.

Naming your institution, and .edu.pk vs .ac.pk
.edu.pk is the strongest possible signal of educational legitimacy in a Pakistani domain name, which is exactly why it comes with a documentation step the others don't.
Against plain .pk and .com.pk: neither requires any proof of what the site is for, so anyone can register them. A .edu.pk address tells parents, students and accreditation bodies at a glance that the institution behind it has been verified by PKNIC against real registration paperwork — something a .com.pk address cannot claim.
Against .ac.pk: the two exist side by side for a reason. .ac.pk is the open, document-free option for academies, coaching centres and training institutes that are not formally registered or degree-awarding. .edu.pk is reserved for institutions that already hold that registration or affiliation certificate — typically schools, colleges and universities recognised by a federal or provincial education department. If your institution doesn't yet have that certificate, .ac.pk gets you online today rather than waiting on document approval.
For the name itself, use the institution's official registered name or a clear, recognisable abbreviation rather than a marketing slogan — this matters more for .edu.pk than any other extension, since the name on the domain application should match the name on your registration certificate to avoid delays during PKNIC's review.

Transferring a .edu.pk domain to us
PKNIC is the sole registrar and sponsor for every .edu.pk name, so a transfer between service providers needs a signed authorisation letter on your current registrant's letterhead (with company stamp/seal) plus a copy of the CEO's CNIC, naming the domain and the receiving PKNIC ID. Owner mismatch correction
If the registrant name on file doesn't match your company letterhead or official seal, PKNIC requires a notarised affidavit (on stamp paper worth PKR 100, attested by an oath commissioner) giving your CNIC number, company name, an explanation of the mismatch, the domain name, and the receiving PKNIC account ID.
Individual owner transfer
An individual registrant moving a .edu.pk domain between providers can instead submit a notarised affidavit (stamp paper worth PKR 100, oath-commissioner attested) stating their full name, the domain name, CNIC number, residential address, and the receiving PKNIC account ID.
